Your Headshot Is the Picture in Their Head

What Your Headshot Is Actually Doing for You

A headshot is how you make your first impression digitally. It's also the picture people carry in their head while they're emailing you and going back and forth with you. Not just a moment. An ongoing mental image.

And when that picture is outdated, it's a problem. I know people using headshots that are 10-15 years old. You end up putting the wrong face on your business. You've grown. Your work has grown. Your brand has grown. And your headshot is still from whatever job you had before this one.

When you get it right, the payoff is mostly invisible. Nobody emails you to say "your headshot converted me." But the replies come faster. The meetings get booked. Trust is built before the conversation even starts. It compounds in the background.

What a session with me looks like

I run a mobile studio serving Lancaster County and the Harrisburg area. I bring the backdrop and the lights to you. We can shoot in your office, a conference room, a shared workspace, wherever makes sense.

When I show up, I put on some music to relax the session. Most people aren't comfortable in front of a camera, and the music helps. So does keeping things quick. You didn't sign up for a modeling career. You signed up for a headshot. I keep it moving so you can get back to your day.

Most of the directing is mirroring. I show you the posture and angle I want, and you match my body instead of trying to translate words into movement. Posing for a headshot is pretty minimal anyway. The work is getting you to look natural in front of the camera.

For solo sessions, you get more variety. More time, more expressions, more final images to pick from. Team sessions are built for efficiency: a consistent set for everyone that works across your website, LinkedIn, and press.

Turnaround is about a week. Final images come through a private online gallery, fully retouched.

Frequently asked

What does it cost?

Solo career headshot: $225, includes retouching.

Team and corporate sessions: $85 per headshot, five-person minimum.

The five-person minimum exists because setup, breakdown, and travel take about the same amount of time whether I'm shooting one person or ten. If you're solo, the easiest path is to get a few colleagues together and book as a group.

What should I wear?

Solid colors over busy patterns. Avoid big logos or anything that will date quickly. Bring two or three outfits if you want some variety in the final gallery, especially for solo sessions where we have more time to work through them. For teams, lean toward a consistent color palette, not a uniform, just a loose color family so the final set feels cohesive.

What about makeup and getting ready?

Keep it simple. If you normally wear makeup, a lighter matte look photographs best. Heavy contouring and shiny finishes fight the lighting. Don't stress about it too much though. Retouching cleans up the small stuff.

The bigger thing is staying relaxed. Most people walk in tense, which shows up in the face. That's what the music is for. I'll direct you through the posing and expressions. You don't need to figure any of it out before you get there.

How long is the session?

Short. You're not going to be stuck there for an hour. Most people are in and out quickly.

How often should I update it?

Every three to five years, or any time something noticeable has changed (hairstyle, glasses, weight, new role). If someone who hasn't seen you in a while might do a double-take, it's time.

Can you do my whole team?

Yes. Actually the most efficient way to use this service. I set up once at your office and run the team through. Five-person minimum.
